WHY PILC IS UNIQUE

· PILC is operated and directed by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities.
Our staff acts as as peer advisors to help others overcome obstacles to living independently. We help people find accessible housing, meaningful work, and the skills to live independently in the Panhandle.
· Our services are offered to anyone with a disability, free of charge.
There are no income or age restrictions for those using our services. We are here to serve everyone with a disability who lives in the Panhandle.
· PILC promotes the independence and self-reliance of people with disabilities.
Our services are designed for people with disabilities to set their own goals for achieving independence. Our job is to help guide and empower them toward accomplishing their personal goals.
· PILC staff developed an innovative and award winning youth program.
The Youth Encountering Success (YES) program developed by Panhandle Independent Living Center was awarded for its outstanding performance by the Texas State Independent Living Council. The program prepares young adults to acquire the skills, training, and confidence to live, work, and contribute to life in the Panhandle.
· PILC is a proven good steward of time, money and resources.
As a 501(c)(3), we adhere to the highest ethical and financial standards of accountability.
PILC receives funding (250k) from the US Department of Education. However, that money cannot be used for the personal, urgent financial needs of our consumers. Donated funds help us provide consumers with funds to address unexpected needs for services or equipment required to maintain their independence.
