Community Volunteers Cultivate New PILC Auxiliary

A small but dedicated group of community volunteers is part of a new effort to raise funds and awareness of the Center’s independent living mission.

PILC auxiliary members Blenda Killough, Jolie Person, Tara Thornton, Andrea Clark and Karen Smith are among volunteers planning PILC’s next fundraising benefit
Over the past year, Blenda Killough has been assembling a core group of people willing to share their time and talents to take over the challenging work of fundraising.  Never before has the Center had an auxiliary, so the fledgling committee is starting from scratch; working to attract more volunteers, sharing ideas at meetings and working to develop a new fundraising idea.

By the end of October, the auxiliary was ready to offer their fundraising event to the Board of Directors:  A Heart to Heart Affair to be held just before Valentine’s Day.  The event will feature a catered meal, musical entertainment and a silent auction.  The romantic evening will be held at the Sunset Center Ballroom on Saturday, February 12.

Blenda said there are still many details to be finalized, but the auxiliary is developing well.  “These volunteers are so creative and enthusiastic about this event.  This is also an exciting time in the Center’s history when people from all walks of life can come together to support a worthy cause.”  Blenda encouraged anyone interested in joining the auxiliary to contact PILC at 374-1400.

The new auxiliary will expand community involvement and fill the primary role of directing future fundraising activities.  Because of generous people who support the annual benefits, the Center is able to assist people who encounter urgent financial needs or unexpected expenses during the year.
