Angel Wings, Turkey Legs and Magic---Could It Be The Fair?

Mayor Debra McCartt is among the Welcome Pardner! angels in the Tri-State Fair Parade.
Anticipation filled PILC consumers who looked forward to Amarillo’s Tri-State Fair, a fall tradition that raises spirits, appetites and awareness.

A dozen consumers and staff made the annual trek to the fair this year. Their mission; to find tasty turkey legs, free stuff from exhibitors and sociable critters to feed and pet. The group enjoyed all of that and some educational benefits, as well.

Fair-goers shared rodeo excitement during the American Quarter Horse calf roping competition. They were dazzled by the performance of Jeff Martin, “The Blond Curly Haired Magician.” They were amazed at the power of hydrogen during a demonstration by the Bureau of Land Management.

The annual fair parade was also a chance to expand community awareness of PILC. Board member D.J. Stubben’s Welcome Pardner! business built a parade float loaded with the many friends that she supports throughout the year. Center Assistant Executive Director Diane Campa helped equip the many float guests (including Mayor Debra McCartt!) with angel wings, a trademark of the Welcome Pardner! program.

This year’s fair season brought additional fun and fellowship to consumers, staff and community supporters who made possible another memorable part of Center’s many growing activities.
